Our Purpose  |  Philosophy & Guidelines

Colonial Heights Soccer Complex

Our Purpose:

The Colonial Heights Soccer Association is organized and shall be operated exclusively for the purposes of educating young people in the art of athletic activities; to give encouragement, coaching, and instruction to young people in the sport of soccer in cooperation with other recognized local, national, or international associations; to impress upon young people the benefits of athletic competition in accordance with team concepts and the rules of the sport; and to foster, promote and conduct amateur sports competition among young people.

Philosophy & Guidelines:

Player, Parent and Coach’s CHSA Philosophy/Guidelines

“Youth soccer is not about how many wins and losses are accumulated nor is it about how many trophies are collected.  The game of soccer is just that --- a game.  Our kids play the game to have fun.  We as adults need to keep it fun for them by remembering --- it’s a game.

Proper soccer development means children playing age appropriate activities, so they are able to experience, comprehend, and execute the game as it relates to where they are in their cognitive development.  Soccer development is about playing all the different positions on the team, so the players learn the varied skills necessary to develop in the game and increase their enjoyment of the game.  Youth soccer is about learning the techniques of the game through a variety of fun games at practice where players have as much contact with the ball as possible and learn at their own rate.”

  • Safety of the players and good sportsmanship is paramount.  Please Read and follow the spirit and intent of the CHSA Sportsmanship letter.  The attitude and demeanor the adults (Coaches and parents alike) present will be copied by our children (we are their role models).  Request that you help us keep “The Game” enjoyable for the kids.

    • Have respect for the authority of the referee and his/her assistant.

    • Allow the coaches to coach – don’t shout instructions to the players.

    • Have respect for all players and cheer in a positive manner.

    • Don’t use foul or abusive language toward any one for any reason.

    • Demonstrate the utmost in sportsmanship and integrity.

    • Get involved with the organization and promote the game in a positive manner.

  • Enjoyment of the game by your players and developing soccer skills should not be over-shadowed by the teams (win-loss) record.  The game of soccer is just that – A Game”

  • Ensure your players follow the same safety equipment guidelines for practices that they do for games (shin guards, no wire-rim glasses, no jewelry, etc.)

  • All players must play at least 50% of each game.   However, parents need to know that practice attendance may be related to game playing time by your coach.  Players mainly develop their skills at practice and need to make practice.

  • Players with casts will be allowed to play, as long as there is one inch of soft covering around the cast and the player is inspected by the center referee prior to the game.  Cast should be covered for practices also.

  • Players who are bleeding must be removed from the game/field until the wound is covered and blood removed.

  • Slide tackling is not permitted in any age group. This will result in a Red card being issued.

  • If a player receives a red card, that player will be removed from the field and the team will play one down the remainder of the game.  The player receiving the red card will be required to sit out the following game; this includes the end of season tournament.

  • A Red flag posted on either of the complex signs (located next to the library and concession stand) indicates the fields are closed due to weather conditions.

  • Weekly game write-ups should be provided after each game; we’ll get them posted on our website (www.colonial-heights.com/CHSA.htm) and provide them to the Progress Index for printing.  U-8 and younger are not competitive leagues so a score shouldn’t be mentioned.

  • During games parents/spectators need to stay on one side of the field (2 Feet from the touch line) and the players/team will be located on the opposite side of the field.

  • During the season if you have any questions, concerns or comments please contact any member of the CHSA board.  One of us will be at the field during game days or call the CHSA Hotline at 526-9675.
