COLONIAL HEIGHTS FIRE & EMS

Welcome to the City of Colonial Heights Fire & EMS Department Website!  The Colonial Heights Fire & Emergency Medical Services Department serves a city with a population of 17,010 residents within an eight square mile area.  Emergency responses are made from two fire stations that serve the entire city. The Fire Department responds to all citizen emergency calls, including fire and EMS emergencies, natural disasters, severe weather emergencies, and hazardous materials incidents.  The department is a combination of both paid personnel and volunteers.

Appointed as Fire Chief of the City of Colonial Heights on March 10, 1993, A.G. Moore, Jr. reached the pinnacle of his career.  A.G. began his career in 1986 as a firefighter with the City of Petersburg.  On July 1, 1988 he was hired by the City of Colonial Heights as a firefighter. Four years later in September 1992 he was promoted to “Acting” Fire Chief, advancing to the permanent title of Fire Chief in 1993.  After his promotion, A.G. was quickly faced with a notable Tornado that struck Wal-Mart (now Sam’s Club), destroying the building and killing three (3) people.

A.G. took over a Department that had a Fire Chief and twelve (12) Firefighters.  With the tremendous call load the Department has grown to a force of forty-four (44) personnel along with approximately thirty (30) volunteers.  Several notable projects A.G. has managed are the justification and purchase of the City’s first ever Quint.  A combination Pumper/Ladder truck needed to meet the demands of high rise buildings and increased fire load within the City, and project administrator for the City’s first ever 800 MHz Digital Trunked Radio System that interconnected Colonial Heights with Chesterfield, Henrico, and Richmond.  As the City’s Emergency Management Coordinator, A.G. has led the City through numerous disasters.  The most memorable ones are The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day ice storms of 1998 and Hurricane Isabel in September of 2003.

A.G received his Fire Science degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds College.  He is also an instructor for the Department of Fire Programs and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.  A.G. and his wife Judy reside in Colonial Heights.  They have two sons and a daughter.  Alex, a freshman at Northern Illinois University, Brian, a 7th grader at Colonial Heights Middle School and Anna, a 1st grader at Tussing Elementary School.

"Our Mission is to promote fire safety, fire prevention, and health safety in the community, as well as to perform fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, and emergency services to the citizens, workers, and visitors in Colonial Heights and surrounding communities who shall summon our assistance."
