TELECOMMUNICATOR (DISPATCHER) – Salary Range: $34,775 – $57,380. 

City of Colonial Heights is accepting applications to create an eligibility list of Telecommunicator candidates. 

Must be available to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.  Successfully complete all state mandated certification classes. Dispatch calls by radio and telephone to police, fire, EMS and other operations; answer 911 and non emergency calls; operates Computer Aided Dispatch System; operates computer terminals; performs clerical duties; and other duties as assigned.  

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; type 35 wpm; speak clearly and have the ability to hear and make quick decisions while working in stressful situations; ability to successfully pass all phases of our selection process, which will include a background investigation, medical and drug screening.

EMS FIREFIGHTER – Fire & EMS Department – Salary Range: $38,192 – $65,552.

The City of Colonial Heights is accepting applications for EMS Firefighter.  

Duties: Provides advanced emergency medical care and transportation, performs protective service work in fire suppression, drives fire engines and ambulances, develops and presents public education materials, and performs routine maintenance on equipment and station.   

Minimum Requirements:  Requires high school diploma or equivalent; current EMT-B certification; 1-year of EMS experience; valid VA driver's license prior to employment; and successfully pass all phases of our fire selection process, which will include a written examination, physical ability test, background investigation, medical and drug screening.  

Prefer current Intermediate or Paramedic certification, VDFP Fire Fighter II, Hazardous Materials - Operations Level, Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC) Level III, and formal recruit academy completion.  Successful candidates will be required to maintain all Fire and ALS (Intermediate or Paramedic) certifications throughout employment.

UTILITY TECHNICIAN – Public Works Department – Salary Range: $24,273 – $38,470. 

Maintains and repairs water and wastewater lines and other facilities; replaces existing meters and installs meters on new accounts; operates equipment and vehicles; establishes traffic safety zones while working; and stocks crew trucks with supplies. 

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent with 3-years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Virginia Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within 6 months of initial employment; and successfully pass a pre-employment medical screening and criminal background check.
