HISTORY

The Optimist Club of Colonial Heights is a non-profit civic organization, which has served the youth and community of Colonial Heights since 1953. The purpose of the organization is to aid in the development of youth; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; and to inspire respect for law, in the belief that giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of youth, the community, and the world.

The Optimist Club of Colonial Heights has been a leader in promoting youth activities in Colonial Heights for over 50 years. In 1955, the Club purchased land from the City of Colonial Heights to build what is now the Optimist Building, located on Meridian Avenue. We started with no lights, no heat, and no electricity. Today we have a building with a Bingo Room and a Stew Kitchen. Groups can rent the building for weddings, parties, Brunswick Stews, and receptions.
