If I were involved in an accident or the victim of a larceny or vandalism within the City of Colonial Heights, how do I obtain a copy of the accident or information needed for my insurance company?

Contact our records division and provide your name, date of incident, name of officer who worked the accident and the case number if known. You must also submit a $3.00 fee and the information needed will be forwarded to you. Contact our Records Division at (804) 520-9313 or (804) 520-9305. If I were a victim or a witness of a crime do you provide any type of victim/witness assistance?

Yes, The Commonwealth Attorney's Office provides assistance to crime victims as well as witnesses. Our victim-witness coordinator can assist you in all areas of needs to include familiarization with court process and testifying, assistance with victim's compensation, agency referrals that provide emergency psychological, medical, or financial assistance to crime victims.  Laure Hahn - Director - 520-9258. Do you have any type of bicycle registration program in your city?

Yes. All bicycles are required to be registered through the police department and a license decal is issued to be displayed on your bicycle, which will also aid in the location of your bicycle in the event that it is lost or stolen.

How do I apply for a concealed handgun permit?

You may obtain an application from the Circuit Court Clerks Office or the Colonial Heights Police Department.  To expedite the process, turn in your application (2 original copies) to the police department; make sure you include certification of successful completion of a firearms safety course.   The police department will conduct a criminal background check.  You must submit a $50.00 non-refundable fee payable to the Colonial Heights Circuit Court Clerk.  The process will take approximately 45 days to complete and once the permit is approved or denied, the clerk of the court will notify you.  For specific details involving concealed handgun permits refer to VA State Code 18.2-308.

Do my animals have to be registered in the city and what is the process?

All dogs and cats must have city tags. In order to obtain a tag you must provide documentation on current rabies vaccination. Tags are obtained through our City Treasurer's department at a fee of $2.00 for all spayed or neutered dogs and cats and $10.00 for non-spayed or neutered pets.

You must obtain and submit all applications for employment at the Human Resources Office, 804-524-8749, located at 201 James Avenue in Colonial Heights.
