COLONIAL HEIGHTS POLICE
NEWS - MARCH 2010

  • The police department has begun the promotional process to fill a vacant lieutenant’s position created by the retirement of veteran Lieutenant Kenneth W. Stables. The vacancy also creates a sergeant’s position. Written testing and interviews will be conducted in March for both positions.

  • On March 18, 2010, the department will recognize two motor vehicle crash survivors with a “Saved by the Belt” award. All across the Commonwealth, law enforcement agencies recognize individuals who were involved in a traffic crash and, because they were wearing a safety belt or were in a child safety restraint, their injuries were reduced or their lives were saved. The recipients, a father and son, were involved in a vehicle crash last August where their vehicle was struck and flipped onto its side and slid on Conduit Road near Old Town Creek Way. MedFlight airlifted one recipient to the hospital while the second was transported by ambulance. Although injuries were life threatening, both occupants were Saved by the Belt. A presentation and media conference will be held on March 18, 2010 at 3:00 pm in the police department community training room.

  • The police department welcomes College Intern Phylicia “Ashley” Robinson. Ashley, a senior at Virginia State University, is majoring in criminal justice and applied to the department to complete her internship requirements in Colonial Heights. As a part of her internship requirements, Ashley will spend 200 hours with the department. The police department joins efforts with local colleges and universities to offer internship opportunities to eligible students. The non-paid internship program offers students an opportunity to observe and work in all divisions of the department. The objective of the program is to offer a meaningful learning and work experience and to provide an opportunity to assess the law enforcement profession first-hand.

  • Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers is holding its annual golf tournament on April 15, 2010 at Birkdale Golf Club. The format of the tournament is a four player team, captain’s choice. There is still room for a few additional teams. Hole and tournament sponsors are still needed. Team registration and sponsorship information is available on the Crime Solvers web site at http://crimesolvers.net/wordpress/events/2010-fundraising-golf-tournament

  • Traveling for spring break? The police department offers a Vacation House Check program. Applications are available at the police department. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer Spring Break Safety Tips. The tips may be viewed at http://www.cdc.gov/family/springbreak/
