Pete’s
Place exists for the following purpose:
-
To
provide a recreational environment
that will appeal to youth residing
within the City of Colonial Heights,
VA and who are eligible for
enrollment in the Colonial Heights
Public
School System.

To
cater to all teens who are in grades
six through twelve.
-
To
enrich the lives of the youth who
attend Pete’s Place.
-
To
promote the self-worth of the youth,
values, goals and the respect of
others.
-
To
provide an environment that is less
likely for teens to resort to
substance abuse, sex, violence and
other forms of delinquent behavior.

Sign-In Procedures:
For the
safety of all participants and to ensure that accurate identification and
emergency information is quickly and easily available, a picture ID is
strongly encouraged
for entrance to
the Teen Center. After showing their ID to a staff member, they are required to
sign-in with the appropriate time and date of entrance.
Sign-Out Procedures:
For the safety of all participants
and to ensure that accurate
information is kept, participants
are required to sign-out with the
appropriate time and date if leaving
the facility before closing.

Volunteer Application
ID Cards:
For the safety of all participants
and to ensure that accurate
identification and emergency
information is quickly and easily
available, registration forms must
be on file. Pictures of all teens
will be taken to ensure accurate
information has been provided when
the teen’s picture ID has not been
provided.
Medical Information:
Teen Center Supervisors are not able
to dispense medication to
participants. Any participants that
are currently on medication must
have all of their current
medications indicated on their
Registration form.
Dropping off Students:
Students should be dropped off no
more than 5 minutes prior to event
opening time. Make sure they enter
the building. It is important that
students are picked up promptly at
the end of the event.
Computer Use:
The computers are available for Teen
Center participants only. Out of
town participants are not able to
utilize these computers. Each
participant must sign in prior to
any computer use.

Please
limit Internet time to 20 minutes.

The
downloading of programs or explicit
material is NOT ALLOWED.
-
Please
save work to your personal disk,
thumb drive, USB port, jump drive
etc., not to the computer.
-
Priority goes to those participants
using the computer for homework.
-
Limit
printing to 2 pages, unless given
proper approval from a staff member.
-
Close
all programs when finished.
-
Always
ask a staff member for assistance if
you do not know how to do something.
Volunteers:
We are
looking for volunteers to assist in
the Teen Center at least 2 - 3 days
a week. We are looking for
volunteers who can supervise the
Teens that are in the center and
also perform life skills activities
and homework assistance. All
volunteers are subject to a
background check. Volunteers must
be at least 15 years of age to
volunteer during the hours of 3 to 6
pm and at least 18 years of age to
volunteer during the hours of 6 to
10 pm. See application above
under the heading "Forms & General
Rules".
Teen
After-School Program, T.A.P.:
Where: Community Center, 157 Roanoke
Avenue
When: Monday - Thursday
Who: Colonial Heights 6th - 8th
Graders Time: 3:00 - 4:30 pm
T.A.P. will provide tutoring,
mentoring, and recreational
activities to sixth through
eighth grade participants.
Volunteers are on hand to assist
students with homework during
the hours of 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm.
This is a voluntary attendance
program & students are not
mandated to attend.
However, participants must be
registered for T.A.P. to attend
and to receive discounts.
Discounted Teen program fees are
provided for individuals that
attend regularly. The program is
co-sponsored with the Colonial
Heights Office on Youth. FREE!
Participants must also have a
Teen Center form on file to
register for T.A.P.
Transportation is not provided
to the Community Center however,
parents are encouraged to make
arrangements with your child’s
school for the Community Center
to be listed as their drop-off
location. The Teen enter is
fully operational for sixth
through eighth grade students
from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm. After
T.A.P., participants can choose
to stay and utilize Teen Center
activities until 6:00 pm.
Participants that attend at
least 70% of the previous
month’s T.A.P. sessions are
eligible for a $5.00 coupon for
scheduled “Teen” classes or
activities. Coupon must be
presented at registration to
receive discount. T.A.P. starts
September 14, 2009.
Volunteer Initiative Program:
The Volunteer Initiative Program, (V.I.P.)
is for individuals wishing to give
back to their Colonial Heights
Community. Individuals sign-up and
complete their volunteer assignments
throughout the year. In return, we
log their hours & provide them with
volunteer opportunities. This
program is for ages 11 and up.
Participants in the program
participate at their own risk.
