The Sheriff's Office provides courtroom security and prisoner transportation to and from court, in addition to serving civil warrants and legal notices, as mandated by the Virginia Constitution and the Virginia Code.  Funding for these services comes from the city, the State Compensation Board, and from fees collected by the Sheriff.  The Sheriff and deputies are sworn officers who have full law enforcement authority and can affect arrest if necessary. 

In addition to the Sheriff, our office consists of 6 full-time deputy sheriffs, 4 part-time deputy sheriffs, and one Administrative Assistant.
