PROJECTS


Some of the projects accomplished over the past year include:

  • Visits to local historic plantations for special tours and events

  • Hostessed receptions at Violet Bank and City Hall for historic lectures

  • Held craft workshops to teach and learn new skills

  • Continue to participate in the City's clean-up efforts by adopting a section of Hamilton Avenue and monthly cleanup of Lakeview Park

  • Recycling Efforts - the club recycles aluminum cans as an ongoing project

  • Support and participation in City beautification projects

  • Support VFWC scholarships and award a scholarship to a graduating senior at Colonial Heights High School on an annual basis

  • Support of other civic clubs in their projects

  • Provided homemade treats for all city school personnel for American Education Week

  • Do public library showcase during April, "Federation Month" of VFWC

  • Participate in Fort Clifton Festival activities and events

  • Sponsor Christmas family through Colonial Heights-Chesterfield Christmas Mother program (we provide gifts, food, etc.)

  • Monetary donations to many organizations and people in the community where there is a need, such as After Prom activity for the high school and a campership sponsor for a child to attend Camp Easter Seal

  • Collect toiletry items and items such as crayons to make "SMILE" bags for children undergoing reconstructive facial/dental surgery for Operation Smile

  • Membership activities such as "Secret Pals" to foster friendship between members

  • Held a "Shower" to collect items for the CARES shelter in Petersburg that houses victims of domestic violence

  • Sponsor "Meet the Candidates" forums during election years

  • Fully fund the HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth Scholarship) program for youth

  • Made a special Colonial Heights Monopoly-type board game and worked with three other federated women's clubs to wrap gifts at Southpark Mall during the Christmas season (All giftwrap proceeds going to Operation Smile and Camp Easter Seal)

A wide variety of informative programs were enjoyed at club meetings throughout the year.
