What is a Watershed?
Watersheds are areas of land that drain into other bodies of water. The Chesapeake Bay watershed area, in which Colonial Heights is located, encompasses more than 64,000 square miles, stretching across parts of Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. More than 100,000 streams and rivers in the Chesapeake Watershed flow into the Bay. Virtually any state that has any type of beach or shoreline is located in a watershed.
